Christchurch Spring Show

Hi Everyone

The Christchurch Daffodil Show was held last Saturday in conjunction with the New Zealand Alpine Society. Dave Adams thought the numbers were down a little from Last year but the standard of the blooms was very good due to the very wet winter we have experienced in Canterbury.

The champion bloom was Showdown a very reliable Spud Brogden raised Div 3 and was exhibited by Trevor Rollinson. Reserve Champion Bloom was Rototuna Gold 1Y-Y a Max Hamilton raised variety. Jack Inwood won the Amateur Champion bloom also with a bloom of Rototuna Gold.

Other premiers that caught my eye were Pop Andrew 1W-W raised by Malcolm Wheeler and exhibited by Malcolm and Rozanne. Division 4 white perianth was Rongoiti Gem 4W-YOO another Max Hamilton raised variety and was exhibited by Jack Inwood.

  1. What was special about the Champion bloom was that this is Trevor’s first Best in Show in a major competition. Well done to Trevor and Rosemary. I should add that they were very involved in the set up and take down of the show ensuring its success. Robin Hill came down from Cambridge to be our judge. There was a 50m queue waiting to get in to the show at 1pm on Saturday.
