Annual Daffnet Guidelines Message

Happy New Year All!

It is time once again to remind everyone of the guidelines for using Daffnet.  Daffnet began as an email forum for the purpose of discussing a variety of subjects relating to our favorite flower.  Through the course of travel and wide use of email, Daffnet has evolved into a caring and sharing Internet community.

Today, there are about 380 Daffnet members from 15 countries. Because Daffnet is a world community representing many cultures, it is important to remember that the purpose of Daffnet is to share and exchange photos, experiences, information, advice, questions, and yes, fun stories.  Daffnet has also been used to offer help, express concern, or gather information about the welfare of our members.  Based on twelve years of observation, Daffnet does not need strict guidelines or rules. However, because we are an international community, Daffnet is not a forum to exchange political or religious views and opinions.

We want to share some suggestions and information that may be helpful for everyone, especially our newer members.  If you reply to a Daffnet email, first verify the email addresses before sending.  The normal default for most email programs is to reply to the sender only.  Other programs may ‘reply to all’ and will include Daffnet’s email address.  So, please take a moment and ensure your email is ready to be sent to your chosen addressees.

Another suggestion from one of our members is, it would be helpful to add your general location or region to your name when “signing” your Daffnet message.  This is particularly useful when trying to answer questions and provide assistance because then regional experts can respond.

Many members rename their photos from their camera photo names, such as IMG_1234, to the proper daffodil names before sending them to Daffnet.  Most of you know that I collect many of these for DaffSeek, with permission of the photographer. There are other members that like to save certain photos too.  It makes it easier for all of us, when you take the extra step of renaming your photos to a daffodil’s name prior to sending them to Daffnet.

One last administrative item…there is now a ‘Daffnet Policy’ web page which can be found on the ADS web site at this link:  http://daffodilusa.com/services/daffnetpolicy.html .

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Ben and I would like to thank you, the members, for all your support throughout these years and we  are looking forward to more fun and photos in 2009!
