The Balclutha (South Otago) spring show was held today and it was great to see one new and two ‘back for more’ exhibitors who have definitely been hooked on growing and showing daffodils!
Champion of Champions and also Premier of open section was ‘Broadway Village’ exhibited by N McLaren Premier of the intermediate section was ‘Bonnie’s Jewel’ exhibited by Sue Bound Premier of the novice section was ‘Broomhill’ exhibited by Angela Botting Premier vase of 3 over show was ‘Little Henry’ (top) and two ‘Perfeck’ exhibited by N McLaren. Both varieties are on the NZ list of intermediates.
Two Balclutha exhibitors plan to put flowers in the Dunedin show at the weekend and, being busy at Balclutha, missed picking this morning. Lunch time saw an unexpected shower of ‘small hail’, or that’s what it was called by the weather forecaster. It was called something unmentionable by us daff growers.
