blooming today in Tennessee

N. viridiflorus, the green fall-blooming species in bloom. I’ve had about 4 stems in bloom so far, but have been too busy with work and company to photograph it. I’ve included the photo with part of my hand, so anyone who has not seen viridiflorus in person can have an idea of the scale. It’s tiny! I was excited to have a bloom earlier to take for my Nashville Davidson County Master Gardeners talk on daffodils. I think they got a kick out of seeing it. ;-> Maybe this one will still be in bloom for our local daffodil meeting on Sunday.
After a very wet summer and a whole week of rain and cooler weather last week, the sun finally came out Sunday. I was able to spend a few hours in the sunshine and pull most of the frosted annuals off my daffodil beds to see lots of sign of life in bulbocodiums and jonquils, as usual. Maybe I’ll even see a few surprise blooms outdoors before winter hits.
