Hi Daffnetters ,
The show season started for the southern North Island growers today with
The Otaki Horticultural Society hosting 15 daff exhibitors who staged about 500 stems .
Judge Claude Poulsen felt the quality was high but not exceptional across the show .
Size for most growers was good as we have had good recent rain but did not need
the short and sharp storm we had yesterday when setting up the show .
Champion Bloom
Champeen — 2 W – Y grown by John Hollever .
This was a large bloom , 110 — 115 mm , very smooth ,clean , good substance and condition .
Champeen has a great show record but always raises discussion on the bleeding / yellow halo
from the cup into the perianth. It is also a renown head-hanger ..
Without question it was the smoothest flower in the show ..
Well done Holly ..
