Friends, one of my saddest duties is to notify you when we have lost someone, from our daffodil realm. Frank Driver, of Corbett, OR, husband of Jeanne Driver, died on Monday, January 17th. There will be a memorial service held for Frank in Corbett, Oregon at 1:00P, on Wednesday, January 26th. Steve Vinisky reports that Jeanne requested this notice be posted, and Steve says Jeanne is doing as well as could be expected. Steve has indicated he will soon have details about the memorial service, so please contact Steve if you will be attending. Many ADS members met and interacted with Frank Driver, as he often accompanied Jeanne to ADS conventions. And when Portland ADS conventions were held, the warm and hospitable Driver home and daffodil plantings, were often on the tours. Frank was Jeanne’s very supportive… daffodil sidekick. And I always felt like they were one of those special couples that adored and cherished each other, every day. I looked forward to, and enjoyed many long talks with Frank over the years. He tended to be very quiet, but somehow, he and I struck up a friendship, and would talk about things that interested Frank, such as tools and tractors. Few knew that Frank was a former POW in WWII. He was a Navy man, serving in the Pacific and was on Corregidor. My Daddy, a Marine, had helped to secure Guadacanal andGuam in WWII, and had lived to tell about it. Frank was sent to Guam (then under totalUS control) for initial medical treatment after his incarceration. So having grown up a Daddy’s girl, and a tomboy, all my apprentice time in the garage with my Daddy, gave Frank and I… much to talk about. Frank was just a very dear man, and just so genuine. Certainly, Frank was the epitome ofAmerica’s Greatest Generation. Frank didn’t view his service or sacrifice as remarkable at all. So we have lost an American hero and a great daffodil husband.
