Miniature Red Cup Poet Seedling

This is V04-199-14 a 9W-R which is a cross of a 1998 ‘Red Hugh’ seedling x V96-146-9 = (Haiku x Luchon). It is the smallest poet I have flowered at 41mm. I hasten to point out that it opens at 41mm but, as with almost all poets, it continues to grow on the plant and ends up right around 50mm. It may possibly grow somewhat larger in more favorable climates or conditions. It is 4mm smaller in diameter on opening than its pollen parent which I exhibited at the ADS National Convention in Tacoma.
Only two flowers this year so it is several years (at least) away from any availability. It is one of the earliest of the “pure” poets to open here. I do like the color which is undoubtedly transmitted from the late Sir Frank Harrison’s lovely ‘Red Hugh’. As with most poets with color, if your next door neighbor opens his refrigerator door at night, the corona will burn in your yard from the little light in his refrigerator. Not really as bad as that, but pretty close.
