Photographing daffodils with coins, part 1 of 2

At the miniatures breakfast at the recent ADS national show in Jackson, Mississippi, Steve Vinisky advocated photographing daffodils with coins instead of rulers to give an idea of its size. Now that my season is over and I’ve had time to think about it, I’d like to say that I find two reasons why a coin is not a good reference. The first reason is that not everyone will be familiar with the size of a coin. Americans will be familiar with the size of a dime (10 cent piece) but our friends in other countries will not be acquainted with American coinage. The American dime is slightly under 18 millimeters in diameter. In my next Daffnet posting I’ll show another picture and give the other reason why not to use coins.
