A very nice tazetta
seedling from Wilfred Hall.

sorry I missed the seedling number..

This had great attachment
– flowers at right angles to the
stem, no drooping,

looking the judge in
the eye. Also, clean white

Historic. — Van Sion –
Telemonious Plenus. ( Martins Bay selection
) – Julie Harris.

Martins Bay was a very
early N Z colonial settlement on the
coast at the bottom

of the West Coast, near
Fiordland, South Island N Z.

This is one of the
wettest, high rainfall areas in N Z
and, not surprisingly, the

settlement failed in the 1860,s
not lasting many years.

Brian MacKenzie, one of
our keen Daff and Dahlia exhibitors,
was down at the

Bay, looking for a
family grave, spotted the flowers and
bought some bulbs home.

Julie was impressed by the
fact that they seldom greened and were
a good selection

of Van Sion and is
now growing it well.

Probably from stock that left
Scotland in the late 1850,s
