Portland, Oregon – 3rd and final ODS Show for 2012, Oregon Challenge Classes

Those of you that have been out our way during any show season since 1993, know that a huge proportion of new seedling activity takes place in the Oregon Challenge Classes. The Challenge Classes require that the exhibitor be the hybridizer. There are Classes for 12 stems, 6 stems, 3 stems, and an Orange Trumpet Challenge Class (either a white, pink or orange perianth). In the recent Portland Show, these Oregon Challenge Classes held about seventy five stems for consideration. In many past shows the Challenge Classes held hundreds and hundreds of stems.

Because the Oregon Challenge Classes are NOT official A. D. S. Awards, the activity in these classes is not reported on or discussed. Few, if any, photographs have been published. For that matter, historically (and even today!), few photographs have been taken of these classes. I’m certain that many friends far off have no idea these classes exist in our Oregon Shows.
Below is the winner of the Portland/Crystal Springs Orange Trumpet Challenge. The award went to my ‘Pumpkin Ridge’ 1Y-R. I was the exhibitor.
