Most shows on our Central circuit have classes for seven stems in a vase .
These are always very impressive — big ,full vases that catch the eye .
At Otaki we judge it by public vote — always with a good response and
creates interesting public involvement .
At the late show we had a great line-up — 7 x 7 , probably our biggest
entry for a while .
A lot of banter over the staging ; it,s not easy to get an even arrangement
and they can take a lot of time.Always discussion on whether it is better to
use one variety or a mixed vase .Previous results suggest a single variety is
best , but the flowers are not always available .
We initially used all 3 tiers for the staging , but after a good natured protest
that the background favoured the top tier , they were all moved up ..
The exhibitors who had not entered were the judges .The criteria is not the same
as for the show flowers ; the wording is ” VISUAL IMPACT ” to be the prime criteria .
Lots of room for debate and discussion here ! ! .
The clear winner , even considering a warning ( with possible time penalties ) ,
was Spuds vase of 2 W – W P , ” Joyo ” .
This was a stunning vase , — probably the best 7 I have seen . Big flowers .
very well staged ( slowly ! ! ) by Spud . REAL impact , eye-catching .
A great choice of flower , hard to fault the placement .
A clear second , leading for a long time , was 2 Y – P , ” Acumen ” , also
a strikng colour impact , well staged by Heather MacDonell .
A distant , and close call third , was a Tansey Girl and Eyrie combination .J F M .
The other, all good vases were .

2 W – P , — Cape Point , — Sue Scott staging for Holly .
Mixed redcups , again Sue staging for John H .
Mixed Tanzey Girl , Dancetime and Eyrie , J F M .
An an impressive line-up and an enjoyable exercise .
And the winning ‘Joyo ” , well staged by Spud for his Special JOYO
named for Joy Brogden , a very special daffodil lady .
