Fred Silcock – Putting Face to Name

When Richard Ezell and I visited Fred Silcock back in 2001, we were absolutely astonished at what we were seeing. A daffodil sea of magnificent trumpets including every known color combination!!  The visual effect was one of unmatched daffodil vigor. Richard and I walked with Fred through an abandoned patch where he had already finished making his selections and had removed his chosen seedlings. We knew he and I could have picked twelve stems from the remaining unselections that would present stiff competition at the Australasian Championships where we were next going.

Fred seldom travels. But with his close Tassie friends, David & Robin Jackson and Jamie & Kaye Radcliff, he went to the 2012 World Daffodil Convention in New Zealand.  Here’s a couple of photos I took in the Rollinsons’ garden in Dunedin.
