It being mid-winter in the northern hemisphere and mid-summer in the southern hemisphere, there are probably few daffodils in bloom right now, so Bob Spotts encouraged me to post a few pictures for those of you starved of daffodils. I took some photos yesterday of a few things in my back yard.
It’s not surprising that bulbocodiums would be blooming now. In fact there are several bulbocodiums in bloom, and this is the nicest looking one at the moment.
The rest of the photos are from bulbs I purchased last fall. I refrigerated the bulbs longer than I had planned, so they’ve started blooming much too soon for our local daffodil shows. The above photo is of a Frank Galyon seedling.
The shipment from Mitsch Daffodils arrived early, so it went into the refrigerator early. Anyway, here’s a recent Havens cultivar, ‘Velvet Chord.’
The Havens have in recent years been turning around and propagating David Jackson’s cultivars. ‘Terminator’ has been winning at daffodil shows.
Here’s ‘Onya’, another Jackson cultivar, just what we need — early seasons pinks.
I hope that slakes your thirst for daffodils in winter (or summer as the case may be).
