‘Pogo’ is recipient of the 2020 Pannill Award. Registered in 1989 ‘Pogo’ was bred by Mrs. Goethe (Helen) Link from 14/3BY/1YY Seedling x First Kiss. It is a beautiful mid-season to late standard size daffodil with white perianth segments that are smooth and have good substance; a corona that is small bowl-shaped, with a green center that fades to yellow, and a bright orange rim that is slightly frilled. This ADS Intermediate is very striking on the show bench and in the garden.

‘Sir Winston Churchill’ is the recipient of the 2020 Wister Award. Registered in 1966, this double daffodil has a white perianth and other petaloid segments in several whorls, and averages 4 flowers per stem. The corona segments are shorter than the center whorl and an orange color. This ADS Classics daffodil is strongly scented and a single bulb will make a clump which will bloom for many years.

  1. I would put a question mark against the pedigree of Pogo. I have done many strange crosses. None suggest that a 3W-GYO is obtainable from a parent that is 1Y-Y x (Mite x cyclamineus).

  2. I can certainly understand your concern about the parentage of Pogo. It does show Altruist  3O-R as the  pollen parent though. Nevertheless, what ever the parents, it is a great cultivar for the later season. With great color and form, it also grows and  multiplies well in my 7B zone. Something not all cultivars do. One of my favorite cultivars. It is certainly worthy of the award.
