English Cut Flower grower

Does anyone have 1 tonne +- of bulbs of the following varieties

  1. Charter
  2. Daydream
  3. Lebanon
  4. Millgreen
  5. Pink Pacer
  6. Ponderosa
  7. Sir Winston Churchill
  8. Viking
  9. Yornup

If the answer is yes, I can then look at the feasibility of shipping to the UK in good condition for planting here in August.  The best I have managed so far is 11kg of Viking from down in Cornwall, England!  Quite a way to go.  I have found a Winston Churchill grower in Norflok, England but he has already sold out.  I have not tried the Netherlands yet though.

To add some colour to what we do, we grow 50 acres of daffs, in order of flowering, Tamara; Jedna; Mando; California; Carlton and Golden Ducat.  I aim to pick 1m bunches a year and we sell them to the wholesalers here.  50% go to UK supermarkets, 25% go to the Dutch flower auctions and 25% get on a plane and head to you in the States.  Our biggest challenge at the moment is labour – a perfect storm of Brexit; increase in Living Wage (government set minimum wages) and COVID has made it our biggest barrier to getting our crop to the market.   The daffodil crop forms part of 2,200 acres of cropping here of wheat, oats, beans, peas, potatoes, oilseed rape, corn gromwell, meadowfoam and sugar beet.

PS I use daffseek often and it is a great tool, thank you for setting it up and populating it, quite a task!

Kind regards

Nicholas Scott
