It has not been a good season , – to date , for the exhibition doubles and the standard at the show was only average . August had record rainfall warm , very overcast days . The doubles need optimum growing conditions , – we did not have the sunshine .Hopefully it improves in September .Just 2 to look at here . a pinkish JFM Blossom seedling , great stem and neck , similar to Maelstrom , and a heavy , round yellow / orange , breeding , – LUNAR PROBE – X – LOCK LOYAL – split petals trying to dress it .

My entry in the 3 Yellow backed Trumpets class was disqualified – NAS – it was just short of trumpet according to Wayne , but the light orange flushed perianth was noted .
It was next to a vase of 1W – W RAUN , – a very useful early white trumpet used in a few classes at the show..
Two nice split coronas at the show , GIPSY CLASS , – shown by Brian MacKenzie , and BOSCOPPA , a Ron Scamp registration .
Otaki has been the home show , for the last few decades , for Wilfred Hall . He is unable to be with us the last two shows but his flowers made an impact .
The four he had on the Premier Table were – LQ – 5 , a LIMEQUILLA Seedling , ESPERITO , winning vase three , – HARPSWELL – –a top tazetta and ESKEDOS , a very good intermediate .
The judge was WAYNE HUGHES , — and his steward was MIKE BERRIGAN
