PBS show on Dr Charles Culpepper

Good evening

The Arlington VA PBS channel will be producing a documentary on Dr Culpepper and the Senior Living residence that is part of his request to the community.

Dr Culpepper was an early ADS Member in the 1960s. If you can help in any way I hope you will reach out to

It seems there is still a WDS award for best white in his honor. Hopefully many in the area can help Bryant.

Here is the message that came in that started this:

I am with VPM-PBS, Central Virginia’s public television affiliate station. Our program, “Virginia Home Grown,” is doing a feature story on the daffodils at the Culpepper Garden Senior Living Community in Arlington, VA, the former home of Dr. Charles Culpepper. Dr. Culpepper’s profile was included in the March 1966 edition of The Daffodil Journal. I am writing to inquire about the use of an image of Dr. Culpepper on page 117.

When he retired, Dr. Culpepper, sold his property at a large discount to the Unitarian Church in that area on the condition that the property would be used for affordable senior housing. They are now one of the few options for low income senior living in the area, and are very unique in for having so much acreage and green space in an urban setting. Over the last several years they have began staging mass daffodil plantings on the property to honor the legacy of Dr. Culpepper. They now have over 30,000 plants.

Being able to include a photograph of Dr. Culpepper will be a nice addition as we share this story with our audience of gardeners across Virginia.

Thank you,
Bryant Dameron
