Prior registration and payment is required for participation. January 31, 2024 is the cut-off date for all registrations! The access code for presentations will be sent to registrants the evening prior to the conference.

- 4:00 pm — “Daffodils Past Present and Future (Australia)” – presented by Lawrence Trevanion.
Lawrence Trevanion, from Canberra Australia, grew up in Snowy River country during the the 1960’s where the only remnants of early European settlers are the daffodils they planted. As a youth he planted these daffodils along the fences where they flower to this day. In the mid 90’s he started daffodil breeding in Perth, Western Australia. There he benefited from an immense collection of older and newer varieties owned by Marie Parton and others. He soon moved to Canberra and was able to expand his activities to a 20 acre property near the neighboring town of Yass. That property has been sold and he is now trying to organize the bones of this collection at his large house block in Canberra. Lawrence breeds all kinds of daffodils, every division, flowering for about 8 months from March to October. Thousands of crosses later he is still discovering new and exciting things about daffodils.
In his presentation Lawrence will talk about some of the old 19th century plantings he has visited and revise the history of daffodils in Australia. He will choose some of his favorite daffodils now, mostly ones of his own breeding, and explain why they have special value for him. And he will make a few remarks about where he sees daffodils heading.

- 5:15 pm — “Hybridizing for Beginners (and How Daffodils Have Sex)” – presented by Harold Koopowitz.
Dr. Koopowitz will start with a discussion on why amateurs might want to create their own daffodils and then simple ways of doing it.We will cover some information on variations in the structure of daffodil flowers and some aspects of the biology of seed production. Then we will discuss parent plant selection.
Dr. Koopowitz will also explain how he labels crosses and handles seeds. We will look at planting seeds and care until flowering is achieved. He will then show how he keeps track of his crosses.
