The Livermore Daffodil Show is always on the first weekend in March. This year was the earliest dates – March 1-2 – possible. This fortunate circumstance allowed exhibiting many of my viridiflorus seedlings, which bloom in February. Many of these Intermediate-sized seedlings are more beautiful than show-worthy, but the judges were generous in their assessments. Here are two appealing seedlings taken from collections. Each was bred from Triple Crown x (Actaea x viridiflorus). (Think green – much hue in the perianth has been lost in the photos.)
The twin-floreted cultivar has an hexagonal cup!
The top one was stunning. Bob’s photography leaves something to be desired. The petals were a clear mint green and the cup emerald green with a fiery red rim. Texture was very smooth. To my mind it should have gotten the rose ribbon but that went to another of Bob’s hybrids, a more traditional yellow trumpet. I hope I am first in line for a bulb.

Gorgeous! Congratulations, Bob!
I can vouch for the beauty of Bob’s many seedlings. They are worth a trip to California to see in person (as are Harold’s miniatures.)

Fabulous flowers! Congrats Bob!
Bob, your seedling just get more gorgeous every year! I wish spring would come…. In Virginia we had another snow storm on Monday…. A good dose of green is what I needed tonight. Thank you.
