On a cool Wednesday 14 September a good muster of Central Daffodil Group exhibitors and a quite a few locals had a spring show that all will remember for a most unusual series of events .The big , open style venue has good natural light ; – it was needed as most of the staging was done without the standard lighting . The power in the area was off for local grid repairs – no one was notified until they realised late the night before that the hall was booked for a flower show . A generator duly arrived and – voila – let there be light . But not for long ..The exhaust fumes from the generator triggered the fire alarm – the noise was dangerously loud inside and we all evaculated quite quickly . The local volunteer fire brigade arrived quickly and the situation was managed as we huddled outside in a cool southerly . The sensor settings for the alarms were adjusted / reset , the generator fired up again and the staging – judging resumed . No harm done and we were only about 30 minutes behind schedule .
Head judge Wayne Hughes faced 314 stems – 57 vases 3 and 143 singles and the public voted on 5 vases of 7 .Always very good floral arrangements here and good benches full of a big variety of spring flowers A good public attendance in the afternoon , – oblivious to the morning dramas .

We are well past midseason , – a few POETS appearing and we are all running short of yellow backs , – particularly Redcups .
An enjoable midweeker , – well supported in a good venue , – despite the unusual start .
