I remember with pleasure when it was only a few years ago that Daffodil Friends in New Zealand would send a box of daffodils to Washington DC and Bob Darling and myself would stage them and there would be a Equimox celebration at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, DC. Oh, for the good ole days.
Bet that was fun!!

Hello All,
This was a great project! Max Hamilton and myself organised the flowers –
Max was responsible for sending them. It all came to an end when the NZ
Ambassador (for reasons known only to him) decided that it was not a
worthwhile project. He was a former Prime Minister of NZ and was probably
operating the new broom sweeps clean principle. He was not noted for putting
his brain into gear before opening his mouth!!! Robert Darling presented us
with a silver tray for supplying the flowers which I passed on to Max as he
did most of the legwork. It’s good to know that someone remembers the work
we did – thanks Clay.
Cheers,
Peter (at the end of a very late and frustrating show season – last show is
on Saturday),
Peter,
I remembered that you and Max were the “engine” that made this work in NZ. I also have “fond” memories of being at the Cargo area of Dulles International Airport at 2:00am in the morning to pick them up. They came in dry pack and looked dead. But cutting the stems and putting them in water alway revived them and the next day we had beautiful daffodils. I kept them in Marie Bozievich’s refrigerator, and she just loved the “whole” process and always attended the Embassy affair.
Thank you for the memories.

I agree that it’s a pity the scheme was stopped. Sounds like a good article for next year’s NDSNZ Annual Peter & Clay!
