I know the talk is still on daffodil shows in the southern hemisphere, however, I’m planting daffodils on the east coast of North Carolina.
Every time I tell people that I use a drill with an 2 inch wide auger on a 18 inch stem to plant my daffodils, everyone guesses a portable drill, but I do not do that as I use an electric drill and I have about 300 feet of heavy duty extension cords available to me.
Well I tried the portable drill. I have two 18 volt variable speed portable drills which are great for driving a three inch screw into a wooden deck.
The bottom line is that I went though two (that’s 2) batteries to drill 42 holes in my beds in about 30 minutes. I re-plant thousands of daffodils each fall and I drill them into my beds in rows of 7 across, 10 inches apart on 50 foot long beds. It’s hard to keep the batteries charged when you plant as many daffodils as I do.
I went back to my electric drill on an extension cord. Must more torque, and not as much time running to replace batteries. Experiment with portable drills has ended. Thank you but I will stick with the Electric Drill and my extension cords that I have used for the last 20 years. :-)
