It is with tremendous regret that I have to inform you of the sudden death of our President, Peter Buckley. He died early this morning, peacefully after a short illness.
Peter has been a hugely dedicated and loyal President of the Society since 2006. He has taken Council forward to develop and embrace a new strategy for the RHS, whilst upholding the charitys core values and heritage.
His ability to understand all parts of the organisation and the complexity of its operations was remarkable and his absolute passion for the people, plants and campaigns like
His tireless enthusiasm at all the shows and
Peter joined Council in 1998, became Treasurer in 2002 and was a member of the following committees:
Business Committee
Contracts with Trustees and Connected Parties Committee
Gardens Advisory Committee
Fundraising Sub-Committee
Investments Sub-Committee
Nominations and Appointments Committee
Pensions Sub-Committee
Remunerations Sub-Committee
Shows Advisory Committee
Woody Plant Committee
Peter did all this whilst carrying on a full time role as Chairman of Caledonia Investments. In his spare time, Peter was a passionate gardener and continued to develop his own extensive gardens in
