  1. That sure doesn’t look like Emerald Empire to me.  The petals are much too round.

It is correct.  When well grown, Emerald Empire has round petals, however, if the cultivation is less good, it will have oval petals with pointed tops.  The bloom has to come from the maximum sized bulb for it to be round.  I have had this for a number of years in my garden.  I first saw it at a convention when Elise brought it.  I ordered it that year.  The bloom she brought had round petals.  About every third year mine will, too.  Sometimes you have to get to know them to be able to give them what they need.  I dig it the year it has round petals.  For the next two years, the petals will be oval.  Then in the third year, the bulb is again maximum size, gives round petals and I dig it again.  Lots of trouble, but you have to admit that it is worth it.
