Friends,
I am sorry to report that there has been a massive earthquake in central Christchurch. The destruction is massive and multiple fatalities are being reported with many major buildings having collapsed. We are trying to contact our ChCh friends but the lines are overloaded. None of them work in central ChCh so w are hoping against hope that all are safe. The scenes being telecast are the worst we have ever seen in our small nation. Roads are torn up, rubble is everywhere, cars are buried, distraught parents are trying to get to centre city schools while firemen and police are asking people to vacate central ChCh. We have never seen anything comparable in NZ.
We will keep trying to get in touch with our friends including David and Leitha, Michael and Marian, Malcolm and Rozanne, the Inwoods and others, as well as former colleagues who have retired to CHCh. I am sure they will get on the Net as soon as they are able.
