March & slugs

From Corvallis, OR………

Reading all the comments on the weather in March finds me nodding my head…yes, yes. Tomorrow is the 2nd Oregon show,(we missed Amity, being in Jackson) at Heritage Mall in Albany.  I’ve picked many in goose neck stage which have opened out and are in the garage fridge. Each day I go outside, hoping more will be showing color.  The weather feels like brrrr, damp and cold. So many, many buds straight up in green, which is exciting, but unless some warmer weather arrives, they will not be open for the Portland show the next weekend.  But hope springs eternal, etc., and each one that does open is a beautiful gift.
And then there is the reality of the eternal battle with nature: especially when the slug bait wasn’t close enough to the first ever bloom of a new bulb.
