RHS Early Daffodil Competition

At the awards ceremony of the Royal Horticultural Society at Vincent Square, London yesterday a very elegant lady (see picture), who some of you may recognise, received the Peter Barr Trophy for services to Daffodils, 100 years after its first presentation.

In her acceptance speech Kathy paid tribute to John Blanchard who had stimulated her first interest in daffodils in the wild and also to Brian Duncan who had helped her to continue that interest.

Other recipients were Harold Koopowitz who received the Ralph B White Trophy as the raiser of ‘IitzyBitySpitzy’, a new cultivar which is ‘different’, and Ron Scamp for a major exhibit at one of the Society’s shows.

A full set of photographs will shortly be winging their way to Naomi (as requested) for inclusion in the next ADS publication but I couldn’t resist jumping the gun with the attached.

  1. Apologies for spelling the name ‘ItzyBitzySplitzy’ incorrectly. This was a genuine spelling mistake and the Spitzy portion was not to reflect the views of some traditionalists on division 11 daffodils in general.
