Dear Daffnet,
This is the first time I have tried to send pictures.  This is an interesting double/split that came up in my neighbors yard.  It is very precise.  That may not be reflected in the picture.  I think it is a cross between N. telemonius plenus and one of the old doubles here.  It is large and amazing.  Enjoy.

  1. What an unusual bloom, Nancy! For some reason, the first thing that occurred to was to call it ‘Mummy’! That is just a joke, of course, but it is so unusual and something about the tight cluster in the center seemed like it was all wrapped up.

I’ve heard several reports of daffs not blooming this year here in the middle TN area, but am thinking it must be specific cultivars. I’m trying to track down more details. I know one historic site said their N. pseudonarcissus didn’t bloom and the local botanical gardens has had several similar calls about “daffodils not blooming.” A large patch of 100 or so ‘Saint Keverne’ did not bloom well for me and neither did my forsythias, with none of the usual reasons seeming to be the problem on the daffs. Maybe our flash floods of last year with our combined rainfall just did not give daffs the dry summer they needed. If anyone else has experienced similar symptoms, I’d be interested to hear about it.

We had a good show open in Nashville today, with lots of great out-of-town participants, though Denis Dailey gets the prize for the farthest distance from St. Paul, MN! I just heard he has now arrived at the St. Louis show in time to finish judging and have dinner out with the crew there! Go, Denis! We were also glad to see folks from Georgia, Lookout Mountain, TN, Arkansas, Mississippi (Larry Force had some awesome little beauties!), and Tom Stettner from Ohio. What a great group of people!
