Peruvian Daffodils in bloom in East Texas

Our daffodil season is winding down across the southern USA. The yellow blooms are “Buttercups” or I believe Creeping Ranunculus. The owner of this property trying to find a herbicide that will kill out all of these “weeds” so that he can produce more grass for his cattle. Back when I was a kid we called these “Swamp Lilies” as they grow in heavy clay to heavy loam soils normally down in the flood plains near creeks where folk could not plow and plant cotton. Supposedly they were REALLY common covering complete fields before big boom sprayers with 2-4-D became more common. Keith Kridler Mt. Pleasant, Texas

  1. Hello Keith and all,
Some nice pictures of native plants in your area.
Speaking of 2-4-D, I know 2-4-D is primary for elimination of broad leaf plants, not grasses. Will it take out daffodils also. I have some clover and other weeds in my yard I want to get rid of. Of course there’s daffodils out there also. So do I need to keep it off my daffodils?
    Regards,
    Larry

  2. Larry, I agree with Keith.  I wouldn’t use 2-4-D where you have daffodils planted.
