Royal Wedding

This note is to my British friends.
I got up at 4 in the morning to see the wedding.  I thought it was worth doing.
I do have a question.
As the cars were going up to Westminster Abbey, I noticed something on the pavement.  It was beige in color and as the cars drove off from it, they left a wet tire track.  What was it?  I thought possibly sand or sawdust to keep any rain from ruining the hems of the ladies skirts or the mens’ trousers.  A couple other friends who also watched noticed the same thing.  Can anyone enlighten us?
Thanks,
Donna Dietsch

  1. Hi Donna

The beige substance is sand, which is put down to ensure that the horses drawing the carriages and also the mounted escorts don’t slip on the road surface.
