Another flower in the 4Y-P range – good colour and form but slightly small – why is there always a ‘but’?? I guess it’s just to tease us to keep spreading pollen!? The late Max Hamilton’s ‘Baldock’ , not a great flower in itself, features largely in pedigrees as I have attempted to produce ‘building blocks’ towards a really good 4Y-P

Hi Brian and All,
I’m pleased that you have added 4YP’s to your list of “work in progress” . It is an area where improvements are needed. I, too have used Baldock as a seed parent – I have never found pollen in it, have you? Three or four from Baldock x Capree Elizabeth are showing promise although they are not brightly coloured. I have never thought of crossing it with another double. Max always counseled me about this saying they would have too many layers of petals. In retrospect I wish I had with Baldock as it has only five layers. As it has now been discarded from my collection it is obviously a course I cannot follow, but I will with its progeny.
Thanks for the photos – this helps when we are deep in the heart of weeding. I love Bill’s system of green mulch but regrettably the system results in lots and lots of weeds.Cheers,
Peter
