Hi Marilynn,
Can you post the description of the flower? How does it differ from N. tri. tri. triandrus? It has a goblet cup; and in the photos Fernandez Casas includes of N. tri tri triandrus, N. t.t.t. has a yellow tube. Does Linneaus mention the yellow tube? My Latin’s not all that great, but I don’t see any reference to the tube in Haworth’s Monograph of 1831.
One of my photos on DaffSeek shows N. triandrus with a goblet-shaped cup. This was from the neighboring province of Leon, at a rest stop on the A66. There’s a hint of the yellow tube in one floret.
I don’t understand why this is a new species, and not a subspecies or variety or form of N. triandrus (though like Brian, I wonder why call out every difference and make it a subspecies or variety). Is Fernandez Casas one of the “splitters”, since it’s sometimes said all botanists are either “lumpers” or “splitters.”
