Labels

Just a little tip for labelling plants.   I use cut up aluminium venetian blinds for my labels. This advice is useful for them, for plastic labels or any other media you use.   Get a proper garden marker, tag pen or hard pencil. Write the name on the top of the label for immediate use and write the name on the bottom of the label for long term use. Under the ground and out of the sun the name will not fade, especially with a hard lead pencil. I think the underground parts of my labels, written in pencil, have still been readable after close to fifteen years. Above the ground pencil will last for several years. Why do nurserymen and botanists usually label their plants with pencil?   Even when the top of a plastic label becomes brittle and breaks down the underground part remains firm and readable.
