Another again of the yellow trumpet Raetihi.
A big apology to the good folk of Raetihi — I got their temperature badly wrong.
Yesterday,I said the record low max was — 5. 2 F
NO NO NO — much warmer at 5. 2 Centergrade;definitely warmer, but Still ccccold.
Raetihi is about 15 miles south west of Mount Ruapehu, 2796 metrs, highest peak in North Island..
In the winter it is in a morning “shadow ” and is very slow to warm.
Raetihi translates in MaoriRae ( headland ) tihi ( summit ) — prominent summit..
An obvious reference to the nearby big summit — Mt. Ruapehu..
