Digging late-2012 blooms compromised?

Dig and plant immediately and water in well. I would
need dynamite here in Tennessee to get daffodils out of ground. Nancy
Robinson where everything but daffodils are dying.

  1. Sue,

I’d kill the grasses etc with a translocated weedkiller
    before daffodil growth starts, rake
it off when dead and feed the daffodils with
10-10-20 fertiliser at about 2ozs per sq.
yard. You might be surprised how they
improve. The effectiveness of the weedkiller
depends on having good green grass
growth to absorb the chemical and take it to
     the roots..Otherwise your
proposal is fine except that it seems to be a lot of work.

  2. Life got in the way, and there are some daffodils I really really

want, and need to get dug yet this year, hopefully within the next few days.

I dug a clump this evening, and 3 bulbs had a few thick white roots

and 2 didn’t have any roots, though they looked just fine.

For those that have started growing roots, are they doomed to just not bloom in 2012

If I had soil all worked up and prepped, would it maybe be best to just go

ahead and plant those with roots right away? I’m in Southern Indiana and

about mid Oct is the right time to start planting here.

What should I do? I’m going to assume that the bulbs will be fine, right?

Oh…why am I insisting on digging them? Well in a nutshell, it involves some horrid

creeping grasses, bulbs doing poorly, and an awful weed patch I want to totally do away

    with and mow off asap.

    Opinions? Tia
