Happy Valentine’s Day!

Sherri and All:

The annual Daffodil Days are the historic Filoli estate in Woodside
is a lovely event that includes daffodil crafts, daffodil walks, a
daffodil talk, and of course their wonderful gardens, including the
various daffodil meadows with their naturalized plantings.

“Filoli is an http://www.daffodilusa.orgAmerican Daffodil Society
(ADS) Display Garden and grows a wide variety of daffodil cultivars
with the purpose of preserving original cultivars and educating
visitors about daffodils and how they can be used effectively in the
landscape. With more than 100 varieties, many historic and so unique
that you will not find them anywhere else, Filoli is the largest ADS
Display Garden in the West.”

This is at least the third year that Kirby Fong has graciously
organized and spearheaded the NCDS presence at Filoli’s event. He
brings cut blooms to represent as many daffodil divisions as
possible, and NCDS sets up a literature display in a hallway near the
central registration area. We staff the table for the weekend, and
would be delighted if you’d be willing to join us there for a few
hours! We distribute ADS and NCDS literature, as well as flyers on
growing daffodils in California, etc. The table is staffed Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday.

On Saturday, our Bob Spotts and Nancy Tackett will be giving a
presentation from 10:30 am to 11:30 am; “Daffodils, not just
that yellow flower anymore”

On Sunday, I will be leading a daffodil walk through the gardens from
1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. This takes on the air of the Pied Piper of
Hamlin, with the group growing and growing as we walk along. There
are wonderful questions, I hope to give decent answers, and we all
have a good time. Bring either a sun hat or an umbrella as the day dictates.

I hope to see you there.

My name is Sherri Berglund and besides wanting to wish the daffnet folks a Happy Valentine’s Day, I wondered if anyone from this group will be attending the event at Filoli in Woodside, CA on the Feb.  25-26?

I’m new to the ADS group and hope to meet some of you during my visit to Filoli on Saturday, Feb. 25th.

It’s fairly early here in Northern Calif (Zone 9a according to the new USDA zone map) and the first of the daffs showing color are Rijnveld’s Early Sensation, N. italicus, Early Pearl and the Lent Lillies.
