Mississippi State Daffodil Show (MSDS)

Friends,

The Mississippi State Daffodil show was held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Mississippi College Alumni Hall Gymnasium.  Considering that the daffodil season came very early here in central Mississippi, we were pleased to have 280 entries and 532 blooms.

I am sending a a few (very few) pictures from the show.  In addition to serving as Show Chairman, I filled in for our photographer, Robert Whittington, who had a very serious surgery.  The photographer (me) experienced idiopathic camera problems… idiopathic (unknown cause) camera problems which more of less translates to having an idiot for a photographer!

A limited list of winners are as follows:

Gold Ribbon – ‘Ormeau’ 2 Y-Y (Also, best cultivar in the new Classic section), Loyce McKenzie

Mini Gold – ‘Crevette’ 8 W-O, Ted Snazelle

Red – White – Blue (also the Purple Ribbon winner) – Jack Hollister who also won the Bozievich and Havens.

Best Pre-1940 – ‘Croesus’ 2 Y-YYO, Susan Flanagan

Best Three Stems Pre-1940 Cultivar – ‘Thalia’ 5 W-W, Ralph Sowell

  1. Congratulations on the MSDS show, Ted,
and to everyone who entered flowers.
What fun that a Classic won Best in Show!

I was at the first ADS show held at the
Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN
    sponsored by the re-established
    Mid-South Daffodil Society, an
organization that disbanded in the late
1980s. They have a very enthusiastic
group with wonderful support from from
the Dixon staff and from their local
Master Gardeners. Brent Heath was there
for most of the weekend and the show and
group had some good news coverage. The
ADS show was in one side of the
auditorium and a “fun show” on the other
side. The “fun show” did not require
daffodils to be identified. I’m not sure
if anyone from the group is on Daffnet
yet, but if so, I hope we will see some
of the photos and coverage of the show.

Here are a few articles about the group
and show from the Memphis Paper:

    Congratulations to the Mid-South
Daffodil Society on a wonderful show!
