Portland, Oregon – 3rd and final ODS Show for 2012

The 2012 Daffodil Season here in Oregon and Washington will go into the record books as a remarkably fine year, a vintage year in terms of the overall bloom quality. The rainy/misty cool to cold weather had enough bright days and gentle sun to allow the development of both size and intense depth of color. As a group, the yellow reds (Y-R’s) were close to incredible. The intensity of red seen this season will standout in my memory. The last year any of us can recall that had a season this wonderful was 1994 or 1995!

The numbers may give you a sense of the Judging. We had 19 Rose Ribbon candidates to Judge. There were 28 flowers selected for consideration for Best in Show. A dozen candidates for Vases of Three. I swear to you that not a single flower in any of these would point score below the low to mid 90’s. Many were point scored higher.
The 5 photos below are a portion of the line up of flowers awaiting consideration for Best In Show prior to voting. Not the greatest photos but will give a sense of the quality of the flowers.
Will post Show Winners tonight and tomorrow.
