In flower now.

There are quite a large number of daffodils opening at this time of the year. Among them is ‘Autumn Habit’ the cross of ‘Habit’ a 1Y-Y with N. miniatus. Flowers are quite large, up to 65 mm in diameter but on dwarf plants (6 to 8 inches tall), unfortunately the trumpet was lost.

I rather like this one. It is from open pollinated seed that originally came from Manuel Lima. This would be classed as a miniature and nearly all of this type are fertile both ways. I suppose this should be classed as a Division 11b?

Normally N. cavanillesii is among the first to flower, usually in early October. I was surprised to find it in bloom yesterday. This has the best form and strongest stem of any of this species that I grow.  Marilyn Howe was obtained the bulb from Michael Salmon in 1998 but I do not remember it flowering before. I could not resist putting ‘Autumn Art’ an 8W-O onto it. Now to see if we get seeds. What will happen to the cup in its hybrids?
