We are enjoying the Northern flowers as your spring slowly progresses.
The green petalled flowers from Harold , Bob and the late Manuel Lima
certainly have a charm and fascination .
Another bulb flower with some green in the perianth is this very
different Hippeastrum — ” Papillio ”
I understand it is a South American native and Papillio — Butterfly
is a species .
I have a small Hippeastrum collection and they have been flowering from
early December , the florists and other shops always have a selection
of potted Hippeastrums aimed at the Christmas market — a great gift .
I understand that forced bulbs in pots are also available in the Northern
hemisphere markets for Christmas — a truly universal flower that lasts well
and obviously responds to forcing .
This one is just a little different .
