Bulbocodium x Pink China cross

Got one seed from a cross of  Glenbrook Ta-Julia 6-90 x Pink China, this flower inherited a 12 inch stem from Pink China but alas not the pink corona.

  1. Hi Larry,

Well I for one am very impressed – I have had such a long record of failure with crosses like these. Hopefully it will have some useful seed and/or pollen fertility.

  2. Hi Larry,

Here is my experience with the F2 of this type of cross. A backcross either way generally loses either all color or all bulbocodium resemblance depending on which way it’s backcrossed. Inter crossing of the F1 seedlings has given some few with a closer bulbocodium form but no color. Possibly one might need a large (really large) population to find a few that might express both form and color.

Intuitively, it seems that the combination should be in there somewhere in either the F1 or F2. The reality of my experience is that it seems a tough nut to crack.

My experience has been the same as yours and Lawrence’s.

    Steve
