Miniature 2Y-Y

V05-2-3 is a very small Miniature 2Y-Y at 24mm in diameter. It is from a cross of : (Petit Beurre x N. cyclamineus) x (N. assoanus x N. fernandesii) and is the earliest of the grex. Some of the siblings have more than one flower per stem which makes them 12Y-Y’s. The cross exhibits uncommon vigor with most of the progeny producing three flowering stems this year. The clone in the photo remains single flowered and the corona is 3mm short of trumpet. Some siblings show a modest reflex and some are of trumpet length. The later flowers have better form.

I’ve repeated this cross using Miniature white trumpet seedlings in place of the yellow V00-187-3 (Petit Beurre x N. cyclamineus) parent used in the pictured cross and await the new seedlings first flowering. V199-166-29 (N. assoanus x N. fernandesii) is a most vigorous cross even though it is made with two members from within Section Jonquilla. Posted as I believe that hybridizers should consider experimenting with this style of cross due to the extraordinary vigor of the progeny.
