This is V05-10-24 = Cayenne x N. calcicola and is a 7Y-Y derived from Apodanthae and not Jonquilla. Each floret measures 39mm or below. Many of the grex are single flowered with most all having excellent form. Only a handful have more than one floret. The reverse cross (N. calcicola x Cayenne) blooms later with most of the grex having multiple flowers.
The photo is worth a look at large size as the form is exquisite.
Steve
Steve, where’s that apodanthe article you’ve been promising me ever since the Jackson convention?
Loyce
Please do explain about apodanthes
Loyce and Ethel,
I’ll write the article but not before the end of flowering season here!
Ethel,
Currently the Apodanthae are not in a separate Section but are considered a subsection of Section Jonquilla. Apodanthae species include: N. atlanticus, N. calcicola, N. cuatrecasaii, N. rupicola, N. scaberulus, and N. watieri. These appear different, grow different, and their progeny are quite different from those hybrids made from members of Section Jonquilla.
Steve
That’s another beauty, Steve! Congrats!
Very nice!
