n.cyclamineus in the North West of England

Dear All,

Not to be out done I’m going to try again to post some pictures to daffnet, don’t hold your breath!

Yesterday I had the privilege to view some n.cyclamineus growing naturally here in the North West of England at Delamere near Chester.

They were discovered by the house owner about ten years ago when an Azalea bush was removed from a raised bed in front of the patio. The owners admired the flowers for many years not knowing what they had, but last year brought a small pot of them to Len Tomlinson’s farm for identification!

Both Len and I fell over when we saw them and inform them that what they had was not a common sight around these parts!

They seem to have found their own micro climates as seedling are all over the place and plan move another Azalea are in the offing, but I advised caution so not to upset the growing conditions.

I’m not sure if I know of any other growing naturally so far north in the UK but sure I’ll find out now

Regards to All,

          Ian

  1. Super photo’s Ian. Similar conditions weather wise over here in n.ireland. im originally from bolton so great to see blooms from the north west.

  2. Nice to see that it is to me the most pleasing form with the flared and frilly cup.

    Nice photos.
