Alpestris hybrids

Our classification system provides for single headed flowers that feature reflexed petals. Such flowers present most effectively to the eye if they nod.

The question is, is there a place for flowers that feature deflexed petals and what characteristics should be valued? My own feeling is that these flowers too should nod. Broad petals would hide the trumpet so it seems to me that the petals should not be too broad. I also think that twisted petals could add great charm. A W-P or W-O in this style could be very pleasing. The following are well short of such standards but they do have their charm.

These following are all alpestris hybrids.

For those who are curious (as I was) – jonquilla x alpestris. These are hopelessly sterile.

I imagined a tazetta with drooping florets with twisted petals would be charming. Alas, the nodding poise is not dominant. This is Mornington (a Pearl type hybrid collected from Mornington in Western Australia) x alpestris.
