Clive Postles – sadly passed away

It is with very great sadness that we announce the death of Clive Postles on Tuesday November 1 2016.

Clive was a much loved and respected member of the Society, a highly honoured exhibitor and raiser of many, many quality daffodils. Astrid’s Memory, named after his late wife is still considered by many to be one of the finest daffodils ever raised.

Although in failing health it was our pleasure and delight to welcome him to our Daffodil show where he still took a very keen interest in all the flowers on display. Many of the winning trophy exhibits contained flowers that he had raised.

Our sincere condolences to his son Chris.

Further details to follow as we receive them.

  1. I am so very sorry to hear this, Clive was very special, I always thought some of his flowers were the best in my garden.

I remember taking he and his family “touring” when we were all at Callaway Gardens in Georgia. They wanted to see the country side and I had access to Handy Hatfield’s van that had the seats removed as he had taken some things for Eve Robertson to the convention, anyway off we went had the best day with the Postle’s. Men in the back with no seats and ladies in front with me driving. Of course Chris was only a boy then.

The daffodil world is losing too many of our special people; my deepest sympathy to his family and friends all over the world.

  2. The daffodil fraternity has lost a legend, and Clive has had a huge influence on exhibition daffodils throughout the world.   In New Zealand I doubt there would be any exhibitor who does not have some of Clive’s creations in his or her collection.    I remember meeting Clive on our 2008 visit to his beautiful timbered  cottage at Purshull Green in Worcester, with his named varieties and seedlings on display.  The blooms of Astrid’s Memory we saw exhibited on that trip were  among the most beautiful blooms I have seen anywhere. His legacy will live on in the daffodil masterpieces he has bred which are  available today and into the future.  On behalf of members of the National Daffodil Society of New Zealand sincere sympathy to Clive’s friends and family.
