Sad news from Virginia

The Mid-Atlantic Region is mourning the recent death of Katherine Beale.  Katherine was a long-time active supporter of daffodil societies throughout the region and known as a skilled judge, an excellent exhibitor, especially of her beautiful miniatures, and an expert lily exhibitor. She will be greatly missed.

  1. I am deeply saddened by the recent news of Katherine Beale’s passing. :-(

I met Katherine at the North American Lily Society National Convention. She was a gracious lady…and a fierce exhibitor of extraordinary Lilium. If Katherine was showing Lilium…at the very least one of them would receive top awards and be displayed at the head table.

After visiting with her at the lily convention, I discovered that she knew all the legends in the daffodil world and had received loads of awards for her wonderful daffodils.

I will miss seeing her and learning from her wise words of encouragement.

  2. I am truly sorry to hear about the death of Katherine Beale. Her mother and Fran’s mother, Marie Bozievich were good friends. Kathrine was a friend of Fran and I and was very helpful to us when we were running the Northeast North Carolina Daffodil Society. She did anything that we asked, was an excellent exhibitor, and judge for us as well as Judge’s Chairman while holding office in other daffodil Societies in the Region. When she got to the point that she couldn’t do it any more, she told me so. Fran and I already miss her.

  3. I met Katherine at Clay’s NENCDS meetings/shows. She always had time for newbies and as I got to know her better, we became good friends. I learned so much from her. What fun Katherine, Jim Taylor and I would have critiquing the post-judging awards. Once while staging at WDS she admonished Jim that if he didn’t shorten that stem, he’d never get a ribbon. He ignored the suggestion…and won a blue. More laughs. And those cheesecakes and other delights she always baked for the shows. Oh how I’m going to miss my dear daffodil friend.
