Looking for source of Species Cyclamineus 13Y-Y

Apologies in advance if this post ends up in the wrong place; I simply don’t see a category for people looking for bulbs.  I’m an ADS member and was directed to daffnet for my search for some bulbs of Species Cyclamineus 13Y-Y.  I’ve seen there are two forms and have exhausted all other leads with dozens of inquires over the past two years.  I live in West Tennessee USA and have found plenty of sources in the UK that don’t ship to the USA.  I also understand these bulbs are delicate and that I probably should give up and stick with my collection of Hybrids.   Can anybody help me locate 5-10 bulbs?  I already own the Hybrids Englander and Mite (thanks to Qdaffs), but I’d love to find some actual Species bulbs.

  1. David:

We grow it, but wouldn’t have much quantity at this point if available
at all (only a small amount originally planted and only five years
ago).  I can check the fields tomorrow.  If someone else has it, please
    go ahead and offer it.

David – send me your direct email address privately.

  2. Probably better to ask for seed. The Scottish Rock Garden Society may be a good source.

  3. David, I am not sure The Scottish Rock Garden Society is sending anything overseas at the moment.

  4. Thanks for the replies.   I’m hoping to get back to Scotland next Summer assuming they’ll let us in with all the COVID restrictions.  We love taking garden tours and will do some research in advance to locate the seeds.   I know the law doesn’t allow me to bring living plants or soil back to the US.  Does anybody know if that also applies to seeds?

  5. David, as I’ve recently discovered, you need a permit to import small batches of seeds. (I had some confiscated and destroyed). The process to apply takes a little while, but is not so difficult. I believe there’s a place on the application to indicate that you will be traveling back to the US with the seeds. Go to https://ePermits.aphis.usda.gov and file application form PPQ 587. You’ll have to verify your identity before applying, which can be done on the site also.
