ADS Server Move Status

Our primary ADS server (Internet computer) is currently located in San Jose California.

The data-center is operated by Rackspace. Last year, they made a business decision to move all customer servers to Santa Clara California which is about 15 miles west of the current location.

Today they messaged me that they plan to move our server later this week or early next week.  My wall calendar shows possible dates between from March 15th to 23th 2022.  We had a similar server move in the past from San Francisco to San Jose so we are hopeful there will be  no problems with this move.

If all goes well several of our web sites and our mail server will be down for only a few hours.  During that time you will not be able to access Daffnet, org, daffodilusa.org, and several of our other web sites.

This kind of move is infrequent, usually years apart, and this will be only the second time we have moved between data-centers.

I will update our server status when the server is back online.

  1. The data-center migrations team has advised us our ADS server will be shutdown Friday March 25 at 10:00PM pacific time in preparation for moving it to the new data-center.

They will text us when the server is back online at the new data-center.

  2. The data-center migrations team successfully completed the ADS server move last night and this morning in 4 hours. The server was off line from 10PM PST March 25 through 2AM PST Mar 26.

After the move, all of our web sites were functioning but we still had problems with Internet name servers, security firewalls, and our email server until we made changes this afternoon about 2PM PST.

I will do more tests Sunday Mar 26 when we return home from the Fortuna daffodil show.

  3. The server move is complete now.

There are still a few outstanding issues as described in my previous comment but they should not impact anyone accessing our server or web sites.
