The season here in sunny Otaki has been rolling since Mothers Day – mid May . The openners were the magic tazettas from Bill Welch origins , – Tahi , Rua and Toru.
These are well recieved by the markets as the summer flowers are finishing by then .
We have moved into the standard daffs now – the first of the early yellow trumpets and redcups are peaking and the early doubles are commencing .
Hope you enjoy these as you are digging , lifting , grading your bulbs .
The first of the doubles was a seedling 0-11-1 , a seedling from Early Orbit – x – 2Y – O seedling .
About a week ahead of E O , a little shorter but good strong stem and bright .Will be registered as HOT ORBIT .
HOT ORBIT in front , EARLY ORBIT buds behind .
EARLY ORBIT is now well established as a good , tall early market double .
Very pleased with tis very bright yellow , an August Ace seedling . Great colour and form but not big – 95 mm .
EARLY ORBIT has also given a few white perianth early flowers . This is a little to heavy for it’s tall stem .Never quite goes to a white center – but giving a little pollen .
The first pink is always GEE PINK , a Graham Phillips seedling that is a truly superb cutflower . Tall , opens well from bud , – flowering early July .
A very tall 2Y – O from Graham Phillips , a good quality cutflower type from his RAMAR line that has also given several early show flowers under the RAMAR brand .
A strong growing all white trumpet from John Hunter . It is a sibling to ICESCAPE .
ERLICHEER is commencing , – it has a long season and is always a popular market flower .The fragrance is attractive to most .
Recent good rains have given the flowers a lift after a dry autumn – stem length and flower size is improving steadily .
